Emergency Management: More Than Just Fire & Police Response

Emergency Management uses the Whole Community approach to Mitigate, Prepare, Respond, and Recover from large-scale emergencies or disasters. Often emergency management is viewed as “that stuff fire and police do”.  It is much more than that.

This presentation will provide a high-level overview of the components of emergency management and how they integrate with various community resource partners such as Public Works, Mass Care, Public Health, Energy, Transportation, Communications, and Cross-Sector Infrastructure.

We will examine more closely the Incident Command System (ICS) and how it is used as the basis for the command and control structure for integrating these various community resource partners for responding and recovering from an incident. This will include providing resources for receiving additional ICS and response-specific resource training opportunities.
