Art Where you Park 2.0

When I began my career in Parking Services, I launched my “official” Parking Nerd journey with the City of Las Vegas. About eighteen months later, I stepped into the role of Parking Manager. Just as my predecessor prepared to retire, she left me with both reassurance and a challenge: “You’ll be fine. By the way, you need to start working on the new Arts District Garage project.”

At that moment, I had only just mastered citations, meters, and special events and suddenly I was being entrusted with leading the development of an entirely new parking garage. I never imagined I would be capable of delivering such a project, let alone one as striking and meaningful as what ultimately came to life. A beautiful garage? Absolutely, you betcha!

After diving in headfirst, finalizing the location, and hiring the design-build team, we began navigating the process of my first-ever construction project. On September 29, 2026, the City of Las Vegas Arts District Garage will officially open to the public. It stands as a testament to creativity, thoughtful design, and the expectations of the vibrant community it serves.

This project was shaped in part by the vision and early groundwork of my predecessor, Brandy Stanley, whose efforts I was determined to honor. From the beginning, great care was taken to ensure the five-and-a-half-story garage, expandable to seven and a half, would complement its surroundings. It needed to integrate seamlessly into the Arts District, not appear as a stark concrete structure out of place. Every design decision centered on creating a space which felt deliberately curated and genuinely part of the neighborhood. The garage itself needed to be a piece of art.

In collaboration with our Public and Visual Arts/Cultural Affairs team, a call for artists was issued and the final commission was selected. The chosen work, “Electric Desert,” was created by local artist Victoria Hart, appropriately reflecting the spirit of our community. The mural spans more than 60 feet in vibrant color. Thousands of stories. One city. It celebrates the soul of Las Vegas, where ancient desert landscapes meet the electric rhythm of modern life. Each dot and shade captures a facet of our diverse, bold, and thriving community.

This installation extends our “Art Where You Park” initiative and will serve as a dynamic addition to the Arts District. As the project continues over the coming years, carefully curated artworks will fill the interior walls, ensuring every corner contributes to a holistic artistic experience.
